Muslims must visit Jama Masjid when they are in New Delhi. There are cheap hotels and the expensive one just cost IND1,000 or RM63 per night.

We stayed in a hotel near Gate no. 1 for 3 days. Initially we just planned to stay there just for a night. But the food, the shopping and the Islamic atmosphere made us stayed there all 3 nights while in New Delhi.

The food are cheap. Mutton and briayni for 2 person just cost INR100 or RM6.30. Textile, shoes, etc are half the price if compared to Makkah and Madinah.

The best part is, in that area there were hardly any foreign tourists. In my hotel, all were Indian tourists. So you can experience the real India and buy everything at local price.

Anyway, tour agent definitely won’t take you here.

    INR 100 = RM6.3 = USD2

This Mango lassi just cost INR10 which is RM0.60

In India, too many people but not many jobs. Homeless and jobless people just gather in front of restaurants waiting for anyone that kind enough to feed them. The food below just cost RM1.20

If you are adventurous enough, you can buy air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah for umrah for less than RM1,500. Normal price is more than RM2,500.

For example, you can fly from Kuala Lumpur to Chennai India by Airasia for less than RM300. Then fly Chennai-Jeddah-Kuala Lumpur by Saudi Airlines for just USD381. After conversion, the total cost will be around RM1,400. For 10 days, accommodation, food and transport will be about RM1,000 per person based on twin sharing in Makkah and Madinah. So the whole umrah package will be just RM2,400 and also having the opportunity to explore Chennai.

Saudi Airlines and EgyptAir offer good online prices. Play around and choose multi-destination for more exciting trips.

InsyaAllah, my next trip will be Kuala Lumpur – London – Cairo – Jeddah – Kuala Lumpur by EgyptAir.

Internet is not just for facebook!

This trip was planned mid of last year. April is the birthday month for me and my wife. This is sort of gift for each others.

There is nothing great about this trip except we booked nothing except the flight tickets. The trip was full of suspense. We did not know what to expect when we landed in Delhi except what we read on the net. We did not have any idea where to look for cheap hotel in Makkah and Madinah since both cities are under intense development. There were so many uncertainties.

After all the planning, Alhamdulillah, the trip was a success.

A lot more postings on this trip will come. The posting on food and places we visited in Delhi. The posting on tips of DIY-umrah and how much the food and hotel cost in Makkah and Madinah. A little of Arabic does help a lot during our trip.

Applying a visa for umrah is not as easy as other visa. You cannot simply apply yourself but have to go through an umrah agent. Agent in Malaysia has to engage an agent in Saudi (Muasasah). Some muasasah insist that you must have accommodation and  transportation arranged first before you can apply for visa.

I called Utas Travel and Gemilang Travel, but they only arranged visa application for the one who took up their umrah package.

At last someone told me about Jagung Mas Travel. They charged RM350 for the visa. They applied the visa as if I’m traveling in their group. For cheaper alternative, I heard someone doing it in KL for RM270.

The Visa condition: You must enter Saudi within 30 days from the date of the visa. So the earliest you can apply is 30 days before you are due to enter Saudi. Your stay in Saudi must not exceed 30 days.

After all the suspense, I finally got my umrah visa. InsyaAllah, I’ll arrive in Madinah on 10 April and travel back to Malaysia from Jeddah on 20 April.

    Step by step procedure:

    1. Buy ticket. You need to submit ticket when applying visa
    2. Ladies must have mahram and any sort of documents to prove that, to submit together when with visa application.
    3. Contact agent for visa application. Not many agents willing to do it if the ground arrangement not purchased together. They will get in trouble if you overstayed or violate any of visa condition.
    4. In my case, the agent sort of evaluated me and convinced that I would not violate the visa condition before agreed to arrange for visa.
    5. They will create a mock package and stick on the passport before applying for visa.
    6. When you received back your passport, you will notice a small sticker at the back with the name of an agent in Saudi.
    7. Before traveling to Saudi, you have to have some idea where are you staying, at least a name of the hotel. Just the name and do not have to book it. In my case I have the business card from the hotel given to me by my father who went there a month before.
    8. When you land in Saudi, all went as normal except before final exit door at the airport. Someone will ask to look at your passport and they will shout the name of the agent at the back of your passport.
    9. Your Saudi agent will approach you and ask you about arrangement in the Saudi. You just tell them that everything is arranged for and give him the name of the hotel.
    10. They will arrange the taxi for you.

    That’s all.
