Riding and Climbing – Great Adventure
This is my dream plan and hope it will come true. 4 days biking and climbing Mount Kinabalu at one go.
Tentatively, the plan will be in July or September 2010. We must plan this at least 6 months ahead. The date selected will be non-peak season and non-school holidays. So sorry cikgu-cikgu.
Riders - We expect a total of 6 to 8 riders and 2 non-riders will join this program. We hope that 2 non-riders will be spouses for riders.
- All riders should have high discipline, commitment and determination.
- Riders must be well prepared physically and monetarily.
- We expect riders self equipped with knowledge of the adventure.
- We expect everybody to help and contributing in organising this adventure.
- We expect riders to enjoy the scenery and taking lots of pictures
- We hope riders to get to know the locals and interact with the people there.
- NOT racing and NOT about speeding
Route - We will enjoying beautiful scenery and experiencing new terrain. Nearly 3/4 route will be 600m above sea level.
Air Ticket – Airasia ticket will be purchased during their promotion in January or February 2010. Hoping to get around RM80 for round ticket from Penang to KK. For bicycle which is considered as sporting equipment, has to pay additional RM35 when checking in at the airport. So additional RM70 for both ways.
Transportation - For transportation in Sabah, small van like Rusa will be rented as support vehicle and to carry our bags. We are looking at RM700 for 7 days for van.
The Climbing – Climbing takes 2 days. First day – from Kinabalu Park to Laban Rata. Second day from Laban Rata to the Peak. You have to pay RM489 for 3 days 2 night package by Laban Rata Sutera Sanctuary Lodges for a night at Kinabalu Park and a night at Laban Rata. The price included 7 meals, entry fee and insurance. For July and Sept 2010, the booking is not open yet. The package is something like this.
The Riding - The 4 days riding total is 257km. The distance looks nothing, but when you look at elevation, you will know what is waiting!
Organiser - We will officially organised this Great Adventure under registered club. We will write to all relevant authorities in Sabah for cooperation. But we still proceed with or without their cooperation.

Which one to confirm first?
Will book air ticket first during promotion in Jan or Feb 2010 and then will book Laban Rata Sutera Sanctuary Lodges.
What to pay first?
Air ticket, then accommodations at Laban Rata.
What if cancellation after payment was made?
Please find replacement. Airasia allows change of name for a fee of RM50 per way.
What if I cannot confirm early to join the program?
You might end up paying more for airfare and cannot climb Mount Kinabalu due to no more bed available at Laban Rata.
Can I come to climb only?
Yes, we welcome you to drive our support van.
Can I join riding only but not climbing?
Yes.
I’m a beginner. Can I ride?
If you joined Kayuh Lasak and finished it, yes.
